A worship leader for an Oakland church, Jason Ferguson, contacted me through my site a few weeks ago inquiring if I would like join their team.  Besides being very flattered, I was thrilled.  I've always been a Christian and aspired to serve God through music.  I had auditioned elsewhere a while ago, but their rehearsals conflicted with my work schedule at the time. 

I'm sharing this song because it was the first song I played at this church.  Super fun to play and very uptempo -- great way to start a worship service!

Music City Gig - October 24 2025

This song came up at our Halloween gig.  Near the end of the night, our singer asked if there were any requests.  A group near the front yelled out "Word Up!"  Great song, but it wasn't one we had rehearsed.  Some band members were not familiar with it.  

Turns out, for bass, it's not a complicated song to play.  The hard part is staying focused and hitting that consistent groove each progression.  Even in this video, I made a little mistake at 3:12 when hitting a note I shouldn't have. D'oh!
